What we take on as a subcontractor
Carleton Prime takes on whole residential projects, and we also come in for one part of someone else's. Builders, general contractors, architects, designers and engineers bring us in as a subcontractor for framing, drywall, tile, flooring, trim, painting and the rest of what we do.
We price and run any of these as a separate scope, on new homes, additions and renovations across Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley:
- Framing: walls, floors and roofs for new homes, additions, garages and basements
- Drywall: hanging, taping and finishing, including fire-rated assemblies
- Tile: showers, floors and backsplashes, with the waterproofing behind them
- Flooring, including hardwood
- Finish carpentry and trim: baseboards, casings, doors and stairs
- Windows and doors, siding and roofing
- Interior and exterior painting
- Decks and fences, garages and other complete pieces of a larger project
- Finishing or fixing work someone else started, covered on our finish a renovation page

We build what is on the drawings
On a trade job, the design belongs to you and your consultants. We work from the stamped drawings, the specifications and the permit documents, and we build what they show.
What we bring is the eye of a crew that builds every day. If a dimension does not add up, a detail will not work with the material that was specified, or the site does not match the drawings, we raise it before we build it, in writing, with whoever you tell us to. A question asked at layout costs a phone call. The same question asked after the drywall is up costs a lot more.

Clean handover to the next trade
A subcontractor is only as good as the state they leave the job in. We finish our scope, clean up behind ourselves, and tell the next trade or the site supervisor what they need to know: what changed, what is waiting on an inspection, and where the blocking and access panels went. You should not have to chase us for that.

Homeowners can hire us the same way for a single trade or a single phase of their own project. You do not have to hand us the whole job for us to take on the part you need.

Does Carleton Prime work as a subcontractor?

Can a homeowner hire you for just one part of a job?
Yes. You can hire us for the whole project, one phase of it, or one trade, such as the tile in a bathroom or the drywall and paint in a basement.
Do you carry insurance and WSIB coverage?
Yes. Carleton Prime carries liability insurance and WSIB coverage. If you need proof of coverage for your files, ask us.
Do you work from engineered or architectural drawings?
Yes. On a subcontract we build to the stamped drawings and specifications you provide, and we raise any question about them before we build, not after.
What do you need to give me a price?
The drawings, the specifications, the scope you want priced, the site address and your schedule. Email them to info@CarletonPrime.com or call 613-640-8000. Every job is quoted on its own scope.
Do you coordinate with the other trades on site?
Yes. We work to your schedule, tell the site supervisor and the next trade what they need to know when our part is done, and leave the work area clean.
Do you do electrical, plumbing or HVAC?
No. Those are licensed trades. On our own projects we bring in licensed contractors for them, and on your project they stay with whoever you have hired.
