The Town of Perth has a heritage conservation district downtown. Inside it, changes that face the street can need a heritage permit before work starts. That covers windows, doors, porches, trim and roofing materials, as well as additions and new buildings.
How much approval a project needs depends on the heritage ranking the Town has given the building, and the Town's stewardship guide for the district includes a map showing each property's ranking. We check it before anything is drawn. A plan the heritage rules will not allow is a plan you pay for twice.
