Built for an Ottawa winter
Cold winters and hot showers are a hard combination. A bathroom without a properly sized fan, vented all the way outside, ends up with peeling paint, mould in the corners of the ceiling and, when the fan dumps into the attic, frost on the underside of the roof. We treat ventilation as part of the bathroom, not something to sort out at the end.
The same goes for what you never see. The backer board and the membrane behind the tile are what keep water out of your walls for decades. It is the least glamorous part of the job and the one that matters most.
Decisions worth making early
Some choices cost little on paper and a lot to change later, so we settle them before demolition:
- Where the drain and the shower valve go
- Whether you want a curbless shower, a niche or a bench
- Heated floors, which need their own circuit
- Lighting and mirror placement around the vanity
When it is your only bathroom
Many bathroom remodels happen in the only full bathroom in the house. We talk about that at the first visit: how long the room will be out of service, what the plan is for showering in the meantime, and how dust stays out of the rest of your home.

How many weeks is the bathroom unusable?
It depends on the scope and on how quickly fixtures and tile arrive. Your estimate comes with a planned schedule, and we keep you updated as the work moves along.
Is a permit needed to remodel a bathroom?
Replacing fixtures in the same spots usually does not. Moving or adding plumbing, or adding a new bathroom, generally does. We confirm what yours needs and apply for the permits on your behalf.
Can you add a bathroom to my basement?
Usually, yes. The key question is how the new drains will reach the main sewer line; when they cannot flow there by gravity, a pump is added. We look at where your drains run during the consultation.
What warranty comes with a bathroom remodel?
Five years on the construction work, and two years on any painting.
